The Burt Black Memorial Scholarship
The Burt Black Memorial Scholarship provides $1,000 scholarship annually to a UM student with a disability who embodies the qualities of optimism, determination, courage and a zest for life; has demonstrated involvement in school and community; and has persevered in academic achievement. The award will be used for tuition, books or other related educational expenses related to accommodations for disabilities.
All application materials must be submitted to Services for Students with Disabilities by November 1, 2012. Students receiving awards will be notified by the end of November.
The following are required of a student applying for this scholarship. The student must:
- Be enrolled Fall 2012 and Winter 2013
- Have a learning disability or paralysis with documentation on file with SSD.
The following will be considered when awarding the scholarship:
- Qualities of optimism, determination, and courage
- Demonstrated involvement in school and community
- Academic achievement.
- Type of disability
APPLICATION PROCESS FOR BURT BLACK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
On a sheet of paper please give your name, phone number, email address, and student ID number.
Then please describe:
- How you would use the Burt Black Memorial Scholarship
- What your involvement in school and the community is and has been
- Your career objectives and the qualities you possess which make you a candidate worthy of this scholarship
- Academic successes
If disability documentation is not already on file with the SSD office, please include a letter documenting your disability from a physician, or from an educational, therapeutic, diagnostic, or rehabilitation agency.
By November 1, 2012 this application must have been delivered to:
