Braille Printer in Knox Center

Braille Translator

Connected to computer ATCS 7

  1. Lift the lid of the printer case and turn on the printer (red switch on the far back right of the case)
     
  2. Simultaneously press the left and right buttons on the front of the printer (above and to either side of the paper feed). The printer top will unlock.
     
  3. Raise the printer top and press the following keys on the right side keypad to align the paper correctly:
    • OL (top row, rightmost key) The printer will beep to indicate it has gone offline.
    • 2 (third row, second key from left)
    • E (bottom row, third key from left) The paper will align and then the printer will automatically come back online.
       
  4.  Turn on the computer and double click the DBT shortcut on the desktop. The “Duxbury Braille Translator” window should pop up.
     
  5. Click on the "Global" menu heading and select "Embosser Setup"
     
  6. Click the “New” button
     
  7. In the "Embosser Model" drop down box select "Enabling Juliet Classic"
     
  8. In the Output Option section, select the radio button Write to Port, then select lpt1 from the drop down menu. Click OK.
     
  9. Click OK again on the Global: Embosser Setup window
     
  10. From the File menu, select New
     
  11. In the File:New… dialog box:
    • Document Type should be set to print
    • Document Settings Template should be set to English(American) Standard Literary Format
       
  12. Click OK
     
  13. Enter text in the Text box below the heading. (You can also paste or import an existing text file.)
     
  14. From the File menu, select Translate. This will change the text to braille.
     
  15. From the File menu, select Emboss. Click OK

(Please note that steps 5 - 12 may not be necessary if the embosser has already been set up.)
